        "content": "<p>Middle Eastern countries &apos;committed to helping Indonesia&apos;<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): A number of Middle Eastern countries have given<br>\ncommitments to help Indonesia&apos;s economic recovery and are ready<br>\nto invest in the country, Minister of Foreign Affairs Alwi Shihab<br>\nsaid on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>He said Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Oman had made concrete plans<br>\nfor new investments in the oil, petrochemical and fishery<br>\nsectors.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The government of Kuwait, for example, says it will inject<br>\nsome US$30 million for an oil and gas exploration project on<br>\nSeram island in Maluku,&quot; Alwi was quoted by Antara news agency as<br>\nsaying after a meeting between President Abdurrahman Wahid and<br>\nministers from the three Arab countries.<\/p>\n<p>Kuwait Minister of Foreign Affairs Sulemen Al-Shaheen, Oman<br>\nMinister of Trade and Industry Maqbool Ali Sultan and Saudi<br>\nArabia Minister of Industry and Electricity Hashim Yamani met<br>\nwith the President in separate sessions. They are in Jakarta to<br>\nattend the Ministers Meeting on Investment in Indonesia, jointly<br>\nheld by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and state investment bank<br>\nDanareksa.<\/p>\n<p>Alwi said the government of Kuwait had committed to gradually<br>\nincrease its investment in the three-year oil and gas project on<br>\nSeram island to $170 million.<\/p>\n<p>He said Kuwait also planned to invest in other feasible<br>\nprojects.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia says it will find investment opportunities in the<br>\noil and petrochemical sectors, while Oman is eying the fishery<br>\nand oil field sectors, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Delegations of ministers, fund managers and businesspeople<br>\nfrom Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iran, Qatar, the United<br>\nArab Emirates and Bahrain, as well as Singapore, Brunei and<br>\nMalaysia, are currently in the capital attending a meeting on<br>\ninvestment opportunities in the country.<\/p>\n<p>At the meeting, the government, through the Indonesian Bank<br>\nRestructuring Agency (IBRA), is offering delegates the<br>\nopportunity to purchase assets and companies currently under<br>\nIBRA&apos;s supervision, including such assets of the Salim Group as<br>\nWisma BCA, a mosquito coil factory, retail chain Indo Marco, a<br>\npalm oil plantation, Bintan Resort, a sugar refinery, a coal mine<br>\nplant and private television station Indosiar.<\/p>\n<p>The delegates are also being invited to invest in PT Aneka<br>\nTambang, PT Bukit Asam Batubara, PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV, PT<br>\nGajah Tunggal Tire, PT Indosat, PT Jasa Marga, PT Merpati<br>\nNusantara Airlines, PT Angkasa Pura and PT Pelabuhan Indonesia<br>\nII, which are on the government&apos;s list for immediate<br>\nprivatization.
