        "content": "<p>Tokyo \u2013 The United States announced on Wednesday 11 March that it\nwill release 172 million barrels of crude oil from its strategic\nreserves, beginning the following week, in an effort to lower energy\nprices which have surged as a result of Middle East conflict involving\nthe US, Israel, and Iran.<\/p>\n<p>This amount forms part of a coordinated release of 400 million\nbarrels of oil undertaken by 32 member countries of the International\nEnergy Agency (IEA) the previous day, according to US Energy Secretary\nChris Wright.<\/p>\n<p>The drawdown of the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve is estimated to\ntake approximately 120 days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey (Iran) have manipulated and threatened the energy security of\nAmerica and its allies,\u201d Wright said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder President Trump\u2019s leadership, such times will soon end,\u201d he\ncontinued in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>This collective action under the IEA is the first since 2022, when\nRussia launched its major invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>The release of 400 million barrels of oil from the emergency reserves\nof 32 countries \u2013 including numerous European nations, as well as Japan\nand South Korea \u2013 will set the largest precedent ever established.<\/p>\n<p>Source: Kyodo<\/p>",
