FPI sources say President Prabowo Subianto wants Indonesia to stay in the Board of Peace (BoP) amid Middle East turmoil, and would withdraw if the forum no longer serves Palestine's welfare or Indonesia's national interests. Nusron Wahid states Prabowo still views BoP as the most realistic route to long-term Gaza peace and urges patience as diplomacy proceeds.

Habib Hanif Alatas, secretary of the Shura Council of the DPP Front
Persaudaraan Islam (FPI), revealed that President Prabowo Subianto still
wants Indonesia to remain in the Board of Peace (BoP) amid the turmoil
in the Middle East. Prabowo, he said, is prepared to step down if the
organisation does not bring welfare for Palestine.

This was conveyed by Habib Hanif after hearing Prabowo’s explanation
of the Board of Peace during a gathering at Istana Merdeka, Jakarta,
with clerics and leaders of Islamic civil society organisations on
Thursday (5 March 2026).

Habib Hanif stated that in the meeting Prabowo discussed the latest
developments in the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, including
Indonesia’s involvement in the Board of Peace. According to him, Prabowo
said that Indonesia remains within the forum, but is prepared to
withdraw if there is no meaningful progress.

“The President said that if there is no longer any welfare for
Palestine, no opportunity to advance the welfare of Palestine, and it
does not align with Indonesia’s national interests, the President will
withdraw. His words were like that,” Hanif said.

Furthermore, Nusron Wahid, Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial
Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) and a Nahdlatul
Ulama (NU) figure, said Prabowo also touched on various calls for
Indonesia to exit the Board of Peace in relation to the evolving
situation in the Middle East.

Prabowo, he said, still regards the Board of Peace as the most
realistic option to push for lasting stability and peace in Gaza.

“Mr President also questioned, if someone urged us to leave BoP, what
forum would we negotiate in to create that peace?” Nusron said.

“Because the forum for negotiating peace in Palestine and Gaza,
today, is the BoP,” he added.

Therefore, Nusron said Indonesia still regards the Board of Peace as
a means of diplomacy to promote stability and Palestinian independence.
He urged the public to give the diplomacy time to yield results
first.

“The President’s position is that the Indonesian people have accepted
BoP as a means, as an effort toward peace. At least this effort should
be tried first. It would be unacceptable if the effort and its pursuit
had not yet begun, and we are asked to withdraw,” he said.
",
