Microsystems, Metrodata tie up<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Sun Microsystems Inc of Singapore announced on
\nWednesday its plan to form a joint venture with PT e-
\nMetrodata.Com to distribute its products and services in
\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
In the new US$5 million company to be called PT Sunmicrosystem
\nIndonesia, Singapore's leading provider of industrial hardware
\nand software has a 49 percent equity while e-Metrodata, a
\nsubsidiary of publicly listed PT Metrodata Electronic, controls
\nthe rest.<\/p>\n
The new joint venture is expected to be formed in January and
\nbegin operation in the first quarter of 2001, the two companies
\nsaid in a joint statement.<\/p>\n
Sunmicrosystem Indonesia will also actively market Sun
\nMicrosystems' e-commerce and networking solutions.<\/p>\n
Vice president of Sun's Asia South Lionel Lim said that
\nIndonesia and its 210 million people offered not only a
\npotentially lucrative market, but also a source of skilled
\nworkers for the dotcom industry.<\/p>\n
The joint venture strengthens an existing arrangement because
\nMetrodata Electronics has been Sun's principal distributor of
\nhardware and software solutions in Indonesia since 1990. (02)<\/p>",
