Microsoft offers internship<\/p>\n
PT Microsoft Indonesia is opening an internship program with the
\nMicrosoft Research Center Asia-Beijing to the Bandung and
\nSurabaya Institutes of Technology (the ITB and ITS) students and
\nlecturers.<\/p>\n
The internship is one measure agreed to in the recently signed
\nMemorandum of Understanding by the two universities and Microsoft
\nin Beijing last week. It also allows for staff and students to
\ntake part in seminars and courses held by the company.<\/p>\n
The universities could choose the projects to be studied,
\nbased on each's expertise, the MOU says.<\/p>\n
Under the MOU, ITS will concentrate its research at its campus
\non knowledge management, integrated systems, software
\napplications development, and multimedia design focusing on
\nmarine technology, marine engineering, civil engineering and
\nmechanical engineering.<\/p>\n
ITB meanwhile, will focus its research on next generation user
\nand data mining, digital multimedia for arts and graphics,
\nwireless communications and network computing.<\/p>\n
Once completed, the research would belong to the universities
\nand not Microsoft, Microsoft Indonesia president director Tony
\nChen said.<\/p>\n
\"The internship program for the development of the projects
\nwill help researchers to innovate in information technology,\"
\nMinister of Research and Technology Kusmayanto Kadiman said.<\/p>\n
In a speech during his China tour, President Susilo Bambang
\nYudhoyono mentioned the importance of Indonesians mastering
\ninformation technology (IT) and information and communications
\ntechnology (ICT).<\/p>\n
Microsoft Indonesia also denied an earlier report that it
\nwould set up its fifth research center here, after the U.S., UK,
\nChina and India.<\/p>\n
\"Up to today, Microsoft does not have any plan to build its
\nfifth research center in Indonesia,\" the firm's public relations
\nofficer Cynthia Iskandar said in an e-mailed statement.<\/p>\n
The news that Microsoft would build its research center here
\nwas raised by Kusmayanto and Minister of Communications and
\nInformation Sofyan Djalil in June, following Susilo's meeting
\nwith Microsoft founder and CEO Bill Gates in Seattle in May. --
