Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia \u2014 Indonesia\u2019s conglomerate families have\nrecorded one of the largest wealth transfers in Asia in recent\nyears.<\/p>\n
As previously reported, one of the owners of the Djarum group,\nMichael Bambang Hartono, passed away in March 2026 at the age of 86. He\nleft behind an inheritance that was divided equally among his four\nchildren.<\/p>\n
Citing Straits Times and The Star, which reported from Bloomberg,\naccording to official government documents, Michael\u2019s 49% shareholding\nin PT DIA has been divided equally among his four heirs.<\/p>\n
Each heir has received shares worth at least US$2.93 billion,\nequivalent to Rp52.38 trillion (at an exchange rate of Rp17,879 per US\ndollar).<\/p>\n
To break it down, based on PT Dwimurta Investama Andalan\u2019s (DIA)\nownership of BBCA alone, the value of Michael\u2019s shares in the bank\nreached approximately Rp200 trillion as of 13 August 2026.<\/p>\n
In addition, PT DIA also holds a 19.95% stake in Sarana Menara\nNusantara (TOWR) valued at Rp4.6 trillion. This means the value of\nMichael\u2019s ownership in those shares is approximately Rp2.25\ntrillion.<\/p>\n
Michael\u2019s children also play important roles across various lines of\nthe Hartono family business empire, which spans banking, cigarettes,\nshopping centres and plantations. Among them is Djarum, one of\nIndonesia\u2019s largest producers of clove cigarettes, known as\n\u2018kretek\u2019.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Hartono family had a combined net worth of US$43.8\nbillion at the end of 2025 according to Forbes, making them the\nwealthiest family in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The two brothers\u2019 wealth soared after they expanded the cigarette\nbusiness inherited from their father and ventured into the financial\nsector.<\/p>\n
Victor Hartono, Robert\u2019s eldest son, has replaced his father as CEO\nof Djarum, according to separate company documents. He previously served\nas chief operating officer.<\/p>\n
In a separate development, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA) has\nannounced a change in its controlling shareholder, in connection with\nthe passing of Michael Bambang Hartono.<\/p>\n
Citing its information disclosure, BCA announced that Robert Budi\nHartono has become the controlling shareholder of PT DIA, which is the\nultimate controlling shareholder of BBCA.<\/p>\n
Robert\u2019s shareholding percentage in PT DIA remains unchanged at 51%\nof PT DIA\u2019s issued and paid-up capital.<\/p>\n
\u2018Accordingly, the Company\u2019s Ultimate Controlling Shareholder is now\nMr Robert Budi Hartono,\u2019 said BCA Corporate Secretary Rudy Budiardjo,\nquoted from the information disclosure on Thursday (13\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
Rudy stated that BCA has received an OJK letter dated 29 July 2026\nregarding the Ultimate Ownership Structure.<\/p>\n
