Metropolitan Group opens hotel in Bekasi<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): PT Metropolitan Development is scheduled today
\nto open its fourth Horison Hotel in Bekasi, about 30 kilometers
\neast of Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The four-star hotel, which is integrated with the Metropolitan
\nMall shopping center, will offer 111 rooms during the first few
\nmonths of its operation before its grand opening in August.<\/p>\n
The company's executive director Nanda Widya said here
\nyesterday that the construction of the 200-room hotel and
\nshopping center cost Rp 125 billion (US$58.17 million).<\/p>\n
"The construction of the two facilities on a 3.5-hectare plot
\nstarted in July 1992. The Metropolitan Mall was completed last
\nNovember," he said, adding that his company will soon construct a
\ncar park and apartments near the location.<\/p>\n
"We chose Bekasi as the site for our fourth hotel because
\nof its promising growth as many industrial estates are being
\ndeveloped there," he said.<\/p>\n
Nanda said the hotel industry in Bekasi will grow in line with
\nthe rapid expansion of industrial activities.<\/p>\n
The Horison Hotel is the first four-star rated hotel to be
\nbuilt in Bekasi.<\/p>\n
Nanda said some other star-rated hotels will also open in
\nBekasi in the near future.<\/p>\n
Metropolitan Development, which operates mainly in real estate
\nand housing development, is already managing one two-star and two
\nfour-star hotels under the name of Horison at Ancol dreamland in
\nNorth Jakarta, in the West Java capital of Bandung and in
\nBengkulu in the southern part of Sumatra.<\/p>\n
The company also holds a 50-percent stake in the Park Royale
\napartments, 25-percent in the Kartika Chandra Hotel and 11-
\npercent in the Mandarin Hotel.<\/p>\n
Nanda said his company will also open a five-star Horison
\nHotel in Hanoi, Vietnam, which is now under construction. Plans
\nfor the construction of another hotel in Yogyakarta have been
\nsuspended.<\/p>\n
He explained that the $35 million Hanoi hotel, which will open
\nat the end of 1996, will be operated by Global Toserco, a joint
\nventure 80 percent owned by an Indonesian consortium of four
\ncompanies, including Metropolitan Development, and 20 percent by
\nVietnam's Tourism Service Company.(icn)<\/p>",
