Message from Australia's Prime Minister John Howard<\/p>\n
My planned trip to Japan and Indonesia from Aug. 7 was
\nrecently and regrettably canceled for family reasons.<\/p>\n
My wife, Janette, was admitted to a Sydney hospital late last
\nmonth for a major operation and I wished to spend as much time as
\npossible with her.<\/p>\n
Arrangements are already in place to find alternative dates
\nfor me to visit both Indonesia and Japan.<\/p>\n
Japan is our largest trading partner and the Australian
\nGovernment recognizes the potential for further growth of our
\ntrade links with our closest neighbor, Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Many of our firms have already recognized this potential and
\nare leading the way through the export of Australian know-how and
\nenterprise.<\/p>\n
There is keen competition for larger slices of these expanding
\nmarkets and Australian firms which have pioneered the way,
\nalready know how tough the international competition can get.<\/p>\n
Despite being a relatively small nation in terms of
\npopulation, we recently proved ourselves hot competitors in the
\ninternational sporting arena.<\/p>\n
I have every confidence that Australian entrepreneurs also
\nwill continue to show that same grit, determination and
\nenterprise to make an increasing mark in Asia.<\/p>",
