        "content": "<p>Merrill buys 10% in KIA<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Merrill Lynch and Co. of the U.S. has acquired a<br>\n10 percent stake in the publicly listed PT Keramika Indonesia<br>\nAssosiasi (KIA), the ceramic subsidiary of the Ongko Group.<\/p>\n<p>PT Ongko Multicorpora announced yesterday that the 10 percent<br>\nstake represented 8.49 million shares. It did not disclose the<br>\ntransaction value of the shares.<\/p>\n<p>\"We're very optimistic about Merrill Lynch's investment in<br>\nKIA. This is its first acquisition in Southeast Asia,\" said<br>\nImanto Ongko, president of PT Multicorpora.<\/p>\n<p>The New York-based Merrill Lynch, which claims to be a global<br>\nleader in investment banking, capital raising, securities<br>\nbrokerage and asset management, is the first U.S. securities firm<br>\nto have a full-service Indonesian brokerage firm, PT Merrill<br>\nLynch Indonesia, in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>KIA -- a major manufacturer and distributor of ceramic wall<br>\ntiles which is listed on the Jakarta and Surabaya stock exchanges<br>\n-- is also the sole distributor in Indonesia for PT Indo American<br>\nCeramics.<\/p>\n<p>Indo American Ceramics is a joint venture between PT Ongko<br>\nMulticorpora and American Standard Ltd., which is a leading<br>\nproducer of ceramic bathroom fixtures.
