        "content": "<p>Merpati to open Denpasar-Broome flights<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Merpati Nusantara Airlines would open flights<br>\nconnecting Denpasar, Bali with Broome, Western Australia on<br>\nWednesdays and Saturdays starting later this month, the company<br>\nannounced yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>\"This route has potential and has not yet been plied by either<br>\nlocal or Australian carriers or other countries' airlines,\" head<br>\nof Merpati's Denpasar representative office Hartono Soerono was<br>\nquoted by Antara as saying yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Hartono said Merpati would use Fokker 28 aircraft to fly the<br>\nroute with the maiden flight scheduled for Nov. 29.<\/p>\n<p>He said the route was attractive because Broome was a tourist<br>\ndestination as well as a place for foreign investment.<\/p>\n<p>\"Some Indonesian businesspeople own land in the area,\" he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Merpati already services a Denpasar-Melbourne route.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Merpati's representative office in Jambi announced<br>\nyesterday that it planned to resume its Jambi-Jakarta and Jambi-<br>\nBatam flights which had been put on hold since early September<br>\ndue to the haze.<\/p>\n<p>Head of Merpati's Jambi representative office Ahmad Fauzi said<br>\nMerpati would continue the routes starting Nov. 16 as the haze,<br>\nwhich had blanketed the province as well as neighboring areas and<br>\ncountries, had increasingly disappeared.<\/p>\n<p>Jambi's Sultan Thaha Airport said visibility there was four<br>\nkilometers on Thursday morning -- enough for flying Fokker 28<br>\naircraft, the type used by Merpati in Jambi.<\/p>\n<p>The airport's meteorological head, Aryana Yasin, said the haze<br>\nhad been disappearing because of rains that had poured on Jambi<br>\nfrom Tuesday to Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Aryana said weather patterns showed that the rainy season was<br>\nabout to begin in Jambi soon.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmad said the Jambi-Jakarta and Jambi-Batam routes would be<br>\nclosed again if haze covered the airport in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Merpati services the Jambi-Jakarta route twice a day and the<br>\nJambi-Batam route twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.
