Merpati halts Kupang-Darwin route<\/p>\n
KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: The Merpati Nusantara Airline
\n(MNA) has decided to halt the operation of direct flights from
\nKupang to Darwin in North Australia due to a significant drop in
\nthe number of passengers for the route.<\/p>\n
The airliner's general manager, Reynold Simatupang, said on
\nFriday the decision would take effect starting on Saturday.<\/p>\n
He said Merpati had suffered considerable financial losses
\nover the past three years due to the decline in the number of
\npassengers on the route.<\/p>\n
\"On an average single flight, there are only 20 to 30
\npassengers while the capacity of our Boeing plane is around 96
\npeople,\" he remarked.<\/p>\n
Reynold suspected that the warning issued by the Governor of
\nNorthern Territory and the Australian embassy in Jakarta for
\nAustralian citizens visiting East Nusa Tenggara had prompted the
