The flames,\nwhich have been monitored for the past three days, are now expanding,\nwith fire points visible from several residential areas on the slopes of\nIjen.<\/p>\n<p>According to Purwantono, Head of the KSDA Region III Jember, fire\npoints were detected starting around midnight on Thursday (3\/9). The\nflames were clearly visible from a distance due to the contrast against\nthe darkness of the peak area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInitial information indicates the fire points are located within the\nMerapi Ungup-Ungup Nature Reserve, in the upper inner section.\nCurrently, teams on the ground are still mobilising to access the\nlocation and carry out firefighting efforts,\u201d Purwantono stated when\nconfirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the total area affected and the number of personnel\ndeployed, the BKSDA (Natural Resources Conservation Agency) has not yet\nprovided precise details. Data collection and handling are ongoing on\nthe ground, though efforts are hindered by minimal communication signals\nin the Merapi Ungup-Ungup area.<\/p>\n<p>Purwantono explained that the dry season is the primary factor\ncontributing to the fire vulnerability in the conservation area.\nAccumulated dry vegetation and leaves are highly flammable, especially\nwhen supported by strong winds in the highland region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis dry season is very high-risk. Dry vegetation, if ignited, can\nspread rapidly when caught by the wind,\u201d he explained.<\/p>",
