Merapi in Central Java has been named as one of<br>\nthis decade's volcanoes by the United Nations agency for<br>\nInternational Natural Disaster Reduction, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>This means that Merapi will be subject to observation and<br>\ndiscussion by international geologists and experts throughout the<br>\n1990s, Adjat Sudradjat, the director general of geology and<br>\nmineral resources, said.<\/p>\n<p>\"Merapi will be like a natural laboratory for volcano experts<br>\nfrom all over the world,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The volcano was chosen because it has been consistently active<br>\nalthough it has never appeared to be very dangerous.
