Menteng Police compound blazes, no injuries reported<\/p>\n

The Menteng Police compound in Central Jakarta caught fire on
\nSaturday afternoon, razing several rooms and buildings.<\/p>\n
Four houses inside the police compound, an administration
\noffice, an office for the intelligence unit and the ammunition
\nwarehouse were set on fire. Police and fire fighters reportedly
\nmanaged to salvage several rifles kept inside the warehouse.<\/p>\n
An official at Central Jakarta Fire Agency Zainal Abidin said
\nthere were no fatalities in the blaze, which was reported at
\naround 6:20 p.m.<\/p>\n
Eleven fire engines were deployed to the scene to extinguish
\nthe fire. The cause of the fire has yet to be revealed.<\/p>\n
On Friday evening fire broke out in two separate places in the
\ncity, destroying part of a government building in Tanah Abang,
\nCentral Jakarta, and about 25 houses in Taman Sari, West Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The city's Language and Koranic Sciences Institute (LBIA)
\nbuilding, which was still under construction, was the second
\ngovernment building gutted by fire this month.<\/p>\n
On Dec. 8, fire also destroyed part of the Ministry of
\nIndustry and Trade building. The authorities suspected it was
\nsabotage as explosives were found at the site.<\/p>\n
There were no fatalities in Friday's incidents, which took
\nplace at around 9:30 p.m., and ended one hour later. It was too
\nsoon to asses material losses.<\/p>\n
The two-story LBIA building, located on the densely populated
\nJl. Awaluddin II, Tanah Abang district, Central Jakarta, was also
\nused as offices for the Board of Islamic alms (Bazis), Islam
\nPreach Coordination and the Indonesian Ulema Council.<\/p>\n
The cause of the fire remain unknown.<\/p>\n
Head of Central Jakarta Fire Agency Idrus speculated the fire
\nwas caused by faulty electrical installation.<\/p>\n
Fourteen fire engines were deployed to extinguish the blaze,
\nwhich gutted most of the building's roof.<\/p>\n
A witness, who lives next to the building, said that the fire
\ncame from the second floor.<\/p>\n
In a separate incident, residents of Tamansari, whose houses
\nwere burned late on Friday evening, sheltered at makeshift tents
\nerected at nearby mosques.<\/p>\n
Donations of used clothes and food were seen flooding the
\ntents from churches and nearby residents.<\/p>\n
The cause of the fire remains unknown but an official said it
\nwas caused by an electrical short circuit. Some residents claimed
\nthe burning of garbage was to blame.<\/p>\n
\"It all happened so quickly, I am not sure what caused the
\nfire. We were all sitting close by when suddenly people shouted
\n'fire' and asked for help,\" Fauzan, a resident, told The Jakarta
\nPost on Saturday.<\/p>",
