Coordinating Minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra has received information indicating that fugitive Riza Chalid, wanted for multiple corruption cases involving Pertamina's oil procurement, is in Malaysia, and suggested pursuing extradition from the Malaysian government after verification. The Attorney General's Office confirmed Chalid's status as a suspect in a new case and is collaborating with Interpol to track and repatriate him, though no formal extradition or mutual legal assistance efforts have been initiated yet. This development highlights ongoing efforts to combat high-profile corruption in Indonesia's energy sector.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights,
Immigration and Correctional Services Yusril Ihza Mahendra stated that
he has received information that the fugitive Riza Chalid is in
Malaysia.

“What we have heard is that he is in Malaysia, but whether it is
certain or not must be investigated, and if he is indeed in Malaysia,
extradition must be requested from the Malaysian Government,” said Menko
Yusril in response to reporters’ questions when he was met at the
Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday.

Previously, the Attorney General’s Office on Thursday (9/4) again
designated Mohammad Riza Chalid (MRC) as a suspect in the alleged
corruption case of crude oil and refinery product procurement at
Pertamina Energy Trading Ltd. (Petral) from 2008 to 2015.

Riza Chalid had previously also been designated as a suspect and
fugitive for the alleged corruption case of crude oil and refinery
product governance at PT Pertamina Subholding and Contractors of the
Cooperation Work Contract (KKKS) from 2018 to 2023.

Nevertheless, Yusril stated that he is not handling the Riza Chalid
case directly.

“I think perhaps Mr Foreign Minister (Sugiono) and Mr Minister of Law
(Supratman Andi Agtas) will handle this matter. Until now, no
repatriation efforts have been made, either in the context of MLA
(mutual legal assistance) or extradition with the Malaysian Government,”
said Yusril.

In a separate opportunity, the Head of the Law Information Centre
(Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General’s Office, Anang Supriatna, stated
that Riza Chalid is outside Indonesia.

Anang assured that the Attorney General’s Office continues to
communicate with related work units, namely the Indonesian NCB Interpol,
to track the suspect’s whereabouts.

Meanwhile, the Director of Investigation (Dirdik) of the Deputy
Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) of the Attorney
General’s Office, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, during a press conference,
emphasised that the Attorney General’s Office will continue to hunt for
Riza, who remains a fugitive to this day.

“We are still cooperating with Interpol, especially Indonesian
Interpol, to try to bring Mr MRC back,” said Syarief.

Riza Chalid’s presence in Malaysia was previously revealed by the
Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI), Boyamin
Saiman.

“Regarding Riza Chalid in Malaysia, I am as certain as certain can be
that he is indeed in Malaysia. Because there would be no other place
where he could stay comfortably,” said Boyamin in early February
2026.
",
