JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The head of Grogol Petamburan Police Station,
AKP Reza Aditya, has stated that the group of men who forcibly stopped
and intended to search a car on Daan Mogot Street in Cengkareng, West
Jakarta, were police officers.

Reza made this statement following a viral video on social media
showing a group of masked men dressed in all black intercepting a car on
Saturday afternoon (18/4/2026).

“The incident yesterday involved our personnel,” Reza explained when
contacted by Kompas.com by phone on Monday (20/4/2026).

“Why did it happen like that? Because our personnel received a report
from a member of the public whose identity they did not wish to
disclose, suspecting a drug transaction or some other illegal activity,”
he added.

Based on the citizen’s report, the officers on the scene intended to
conduct an inspection and search of the suspected vehicle.

However, Reza claimed that the driver refused and recorded the
incident. As a result, the officers shouted at the driver.

“That’s why we conducted the search of the vehicle. But what happened
was that the person who uploaded the video was uncooperative. He was
uncooperative and instead went viral with the video,” Reza said.

Because the driver insisted on not being inspected, and considering
the situation inside the vehicle, the police eventually released the
car.

Moreover, it was discovered that there was an underage child in the
vehicle.

Although the car has been released, Reza emphasised that the matter
is not over and his side is pursuing the driver for clarification.

In the widely circulated video recording, netizens highlighted the
arrogance of the officers, who appeared to be shouting, forcing the
driver to open the door, and one officer even boldly entering and
sitting in the back seat of the car.

Regarding the procedure that seemed coercive, Reza justified it as a
form of vigilance by the officers when facing a suspected criminal.

“We also have to anticipate from our personnel’s side. As you know,
the danger might come from inside the car, so we anticipate such things.
That’s why, with the report from the public, we took that action,” he
said.
",
