Membership cards launched to help former athletes<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): In an effort to improve former athletes' lives,
\nthe Prestasi Anak Bangsa Foundation through its business unit PT
\nWAOW Bina Prestasi will launch WAOW membership cards on Saturday
\nevening at the Mulia Hotel in Senayan, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The company's president Sutisnawan expressed hope of admitting
\nsome 350 members at the launching ceremony.<\/p>\n
\"The membership card is one of our seven businesses under the
\ntrademark of WAOW (Wahana Atlit Olahraga Wirasakti). But
\ncurrently our priority is to develop the cards which will be very
\nuseful to draw other business,\" Sutisnawan told The Jakarta Post
\nat his office on Jl. Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"Our six other businesses are merchandising, organising sports
\nevents, sports facilities, media and information, services, and
\neducation and training.\"<\/p>\n
The services business is to provide employment for former
\nathletes with a low educational background while education and
\ntraining is to provide additional skills for them.<\/p>\n
\"Once we have provided former athletes with new skills, we
\nwill seek jobs for them. We'll sort them by age, educational
\nbackground, their financial condition and skills,\" Sutisnawan
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\"We can turn them into cleaning service workers, car mechanics
\nor computer operators.\"<\/p>\n
Founded with initial capital of less than Rp1 billion
\n(US$105,000), the company is expecting to attract 17,000 members
\nin its first year of operation.<\/p>\n
\"The more members we get, the more donations are made through
\nthe foundation. All profits will go to the foundation,\" said
\nSutisnawan, who is also the foundation's secretary general.<\/p>\n
\"The foundation will then channel funds into several
\nactivities. The company's duty is to only make a profit for the
\nfoundation.\"<\/p>\n
He said collected funds would be divided between sports-
\nrelated and non-sporting activities.<\/p>\n
\"In sports-related activities, we will help those former
\nathletes' lives with considerable achievements. We'll also use
\nfunds to help sports clubs develop athletes and organize sports
\ntournaments to boost competitiveness among athletes.<\/p>\n
In non-sporting activities, the foundation will provide a
\nbonus for those who have attained outstanding achievements.<\/p>\n
\"We will, for example, reward those who have made scientific
\nachievements or the like. Some of them come from less fortunate
\nbackgrounds,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"The fund will also be used for education and training
\nactivities and to provide a social fund to help natural disaster
\nvictims.\"<\/p>\n
Sutisnawan said with an annual fee of Rp 1 million, WAOW card
\nmembers will get discounts and special treatment in several
\noutlets, such as cafes, fitness clubs, hotels, and laboratories.<\/p>\n
\"We apply an exclusive membership policy where a new member
\nrecommends three potential members. This way we can increase our
\nmembers,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"If any of the potentials decide to become a member, we'll
\ndonate 45 percent of his or her annual fee under the name of the
\nmember who gave the recommendation.\" (nvn)<\/p>",
