        "content": "<p>Members withdraw <br>\nsupport for PKB chiefs<\/p>\n<p>PURWOKERTO, Central Java (JP): A National Awakening Party <br>\n(PKB) official said here on Thursday that party members in the <br>\nregency of Indramayu, West Java, had officially withdrawn support <br>\nfor one of the party&apos;s House of Representatives&apos; members, Abdul <br>\nKhalik, for his &quot;betrayal&quot; of the party.<\/p>\n<p>Chatibul Umam Wiranu, deputy secretary-general of the PKB&apos;s <br>\ncentral executive board, said that the regency chapter&apos;s decision <br>\nto withdraw the PKB whip from Abdul Khalik in the House <br>\nunderlined his (Khalik&apos;s) recent dismissal from the PKB for going <br>\nagainst the party line.<\/p>\n<p>Under Indonesia&apos;s political system, a member of the <br>\nlegislature represents his party rather than his constituents, so <br>\nthat a withdrawal of the party whip means he loses his seat in <br>\nthe House.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We are now considering input from the regency branches and <br>\nthe West Java regional board before selecting another person to <br>\nreplace Abdul Khalik in the House,&quot; Chatibul indicated.<\/p>\n<p>Khalik, who hails from Indramayu, was accused of being a <br>\nfollower of Matori Abdul Djalil, the deposed chairman of the PKB <br>\ncentral board.<\/p>\n<p>Umam Wiranu also disclosed that he had received reports on the <br>\nlikelihood of PKB members in Tegal, Central Java, withdrawing <br>\nsupport from Mathori.<\/p>\n<p>Matori was ousted from the leadership of the PKB after <br>\ncontinuing to act as the deputy speaker of the People&apos;s <br>\nConsultative Assembly despite his party&apos;s decision to boycott the <br>\nsupreme legislative body.<\/p>\n<p>Chatibul denied rumors of a rift in the PKB following the <br>\ndismissal of the two party officials. &quot;The PKB remains solid. <br>\nTheir expulsion makes us stronger in carrying out our democratic <br>\nstruggle,&quot; he asserted.<\/p>\n<p>Emphasizing the party&apos;s uncompromising attitude toward any <br>\nform of betrayal, he concluded by pointing out that nearly all of <br>\nthe PKB&apos;s constituency committees had voiced their support for <br>\nthe central board&apos;s resolute action.
