        "content": "<p>Jakarta \u2013 Former Indonesian President and Chair of the Indonesian\nDemocratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) Megawati Soekarnoputri has\nsent congratulations on the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran\u2019s\nnew Supreme Leader, succeeding his late father, Ayatollah Ali\nKhamenei.<\/p>\n<p>Megawati\u2019s letter to Mojtaba Khamenei was delivered to the Ambassador\nof the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is my second letter. I am pleased that Iran now has a leader\nagain,\u201d Megawati said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>This was conveyed by Megawati while receiving a visit from Boroujerdi\nat her residence in Menteng, Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, Megawati was accompanied by PDI Perjuangan\nSecretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto, along with PDI Perjuangan Executive\nBoard Chair Ahmad Basarah, Yasonna Laoly, Eriko Sotarduga, and Head of\nPDI Perjuangan\u2019s Policy Research and Analysis Agency Andi\nWidjajanto.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, on 3 March 2026, Megawati sent a letter to the Government\nof the Islamic Republic of Iran to express deep condolences over the\ndeath of Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei following attacks\nby the United States and Israel on the country.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to sending the letter, Megawati also presented a\nphotograph from when she made an official visit to Tehran and met with\nAyatollah Ali Khamenei in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is evidence that I have a relationship of friendship with the\nlate Ayatollah Ali Khamenei,\u201d said Megawati.<\/p>\n<p>They conversed warmly for more than an hour. After the meeting,\nsmiling, Megawati presented a gift of a Balinese traditional ikat woven\nshirt to Ambassador Boroujerdi.<\/p>",
