Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia\u2019s fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri\nmet with the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste, Jose\nRamos Horta, at her residence on Jalan Teuku Umar, Menteng, Central\nJakarta, on Monday, to strengthen the brotherhood between Indonesia and\nTimor Leste.<\/p>\n
Ramos Horta\u2019s arrival was warmly welcomed by senior PDI Perjuangan\nofficials, including General Secretary Hasto Kristiyanto, accompanied by\nDPP Chairman Ahmad Basarah, Yasonna Laoly, Ronny Talapessy, and the Head\nof the Party\u2019s Central Research and Policy Analysis Agency, Andi\nWidjajanto.<\/p>\n
\u201cCome, please sit,\u201d Megawati greeted warmly, as conveyed in a written\nstatement received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Monday.<\/p>\n
The meeting between the two leaders lasted about 2.5 hours. They\nengaged in closed discussions rich with historical and strategic\nnuances.<\/p>\n
Following the intensive talks, the meeting concluded with a\nmeaningful exchange of gifts.<\/p>\n
Megawati presented a piece of traditional Indonesian batik cloth as a\nsymbol of the nobility of Nusantara culture, along with a copy of her\nbook titled \u201cSpirit of Humanity\u201d.<\/p>\n
The book serves as an affirmation of Megawati\u2019s consistency in\nchampioning humanitarian values on the global political stage, in line\nwith Ramos Horta\u2019s role as a Nobel Peace Prize laureate.<\/p>\n
In return, Ramos Horta gave a handmade bag typical of Timor Leste and\nrenowned Timor Leste Arabica coffee.<\/p>\n
This exchange is more than mere tradition; it symbolises the\ncloseness of the two countries, which mutually respect each other\u2019s\nidentities and local economic potential.<\/p>\n
Today\u2019s meeting is a continuation of the dialogue that took place in\nAbu Dhabi in early February 2026. At that time, they met during the\nZayed Award for Human Fraternity 2026.<\/p>\n
The relationship between Megawati and Ramos Horta is known to\ntranscend formal diplomatic boundaries.<\/p>\n
Megawati often shares her emotional connections with Timor Leste\nfigures, including Kupa Lopez, Timor Leste\u2019s Ambassador to Cambodia,\nwhom she regards as an adopted son.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Ramos Horta has officially extended an invitation\nto Megawati to visit Dili to receive the Grand Collar of the Order of\nTimor Leste, the country\u2019s highest award for those who have made\nsignificant contributions to international peace.<\/p>\n
