        "content": "<p>Megawati awards posthumously Hero title to Gorontalo figure<\/p>\n<p>Fabiola Desy Unidjaja, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>The government awarded posthumously the national hero title to<br>\nGorontalo leader HI Nani Wartabone on Friday to mark the<br>\ncommemoration of National Heroes day, which falls on Nov. 10.<\/p>\n<p>Nani's youngest son Djalaludin Wartabone accepted the honor<br>\nfrom President Megawati Soekarnoputri at a ceremony at the State.<\/p>\n<p>Nani was known for leading a rebel movement against the Dutch<br>\ncolonial government on Jan. 23, 1942 before Japanese troops took<br>\nover the area. Nani had consulted Sukarno, who then was named the<br>\nfounding president, prior to the rebellion.<\/p>\n<p>He was also among a group of 17 figures who established the<br>\nNational Council on Sept. 1, 1945, two weeks after Sukarno and<br>\nMohammad Hatta proclaimed Indonesia's independence in Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The never-say-die fighter led the operation to crush the<br>\nPermesta rebels in Gorontalo in 1958.<\/p>\n<p>Nani was also an active member of the Indonesian Nationalist<br>\nParty, which was founded by Sukarno, the father of President<br>\nMegawati Soekarnoputri.<\/p>\n<p>The previous government had posthumously awarded him the<br>\nMahaputra Utama medal in 1991, five years after his death.<\/p>\n<p>Back in his home town of Gorontalo, the capital of the new<br>\nprovince after it split from North Sulawesi, Wartabone's statue<br>\nhas been built in the center.<\/p>\n<p>The country every year awards hero title to respected figures,<br>\nwho are proposed by organizations or regional administrations.<\/p>\n<p>During the ceremony on Friday, the President also awarded<br>\nhonorary medals to noted artists known for their contributions to<br>\nthe development of national culture.<\/p>\n<p>The Budaya Parama Dharma medal was awarded to 10 artists,<br>\nincluding the late Bing Slamet, Fifi Young, Miss Tjitjih and Tan<br>\nTjeng Bok.<\/p>\n<p>The medal for comedian Bing Slamet was received by his second<br>\nson Hilmansyah.<\/p>\n<p>\"I wish there will be more chances for us to have a discussion<br>\nwith the President,\" Hilmansyah said after receiving the award.<br>\nBing Slamet was known to have a good relationship with founding<br>\npresident Sukarno.<\/p>\n<p>Megawati spent about five minutes speaking with the recipients<br>\nof awards or their families before proceeding to her residence.<\/p>\n<p>--------------------------------------<br>\nBudaya Parama Dharma medal recipients:<br>\n---------------------------------------<br>\n 1.
