Mega's visit to Halmahera awaited<\/p>\n
TERNATE, Maluku: People in Tobelo, Galela, Kao and Morotai,
\nall in North Halmahera regency, North Maluku, are awaiting the
\nvisit of President Megawati to the regency to meet with two
\ngroups that were once involved in a conflict.<\/p>\n
\"People in that regency, both Muslims and Christians, demand
\nthe President fulfill her promise to visit areas that have been
\ndisturbed by conflict,\" traditional leader Sadrat Tongoh-Tongoh
\ntold Antara here on Friday.<\/p>\n
When visiting Galela subdistrict in her capacity as Vice
\nPresident in December 2000, Megawati made a promise to visit
\nthose areas. However, in her new position as President, she has
\nentrusted the task of seeking a solution to conflicts in the
\nregions, including North Maluku, to Vice President Hamzah Haz.<\/p>\n
But Megawati, who is now the President, has promised again to
\nmeet with the two conflicting groups in North Halmahera,
\naccording to Sadrat.<\/p>\n
He said people in North Halmahera hailed the delegation of the
\ntask of seeking a peaceful solution to conflicts in North Maluku,
\nAmbon (Maluku), Poso (Central Sulawesi) and Kalimantan to Vice
\nPresident Hamzah Haz.<\/p>\n
It was reported from Tobelo, North Halmahera, that both
\nMuslims and Christians in the regency were awaiting the visit of
\nPresident Megawati to open an orphanage for children that had
\nlost their parents during the conflicts in North Maluku.<\/p>",
