        "content": "<p>Megaproject<\/p>\n<p>I'd like to comment on the letter Mamberamo project by Mr.<br>\nDominggus Mompioper (April 19, 1997).<\/p>\n<p>My attention was first aroused when Mr. Dominggus quoted<br>\nMinister of Research and Technology B.J. Habibie's statement that<br>\nthe main stay area is the area which the province is trying to<br>\ndevelop within a short time period, within certain limits<br>\n(Kompas, April 14, 1997).<\/p>\n<p>I also agree with Mr. Dominggus' point of view, which<br>\nbasically asked the government to give more consideration before<br>\nfurther legalizing any more megaprojects such as Mamberamo.<\/p>\n<p>There should be social and cultural studies before venturing<br>\ninto a huge project, because it will directly affect local<br>\ncommunities. I wonder whether the government would train the<br>\nlocal community living near Mamberamo so that they can be part of<br>\nthe megaproject, rather than just be spectators.<\/p>\n<p>IRINE H.
