Mega to inaugurate projects in Aceh<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: President Megawati Soekarnoputri is slated to visit the
\ntroubled province of Aceh next week, the first visit since
\nmartial law was imposed there in May last year.<\/p>\n
In the visit slated for March 7, the President will inaugurate
\nseveral development projects, possibly including a controversial
\nproject to widen the Ladia-Galaska highway, which has a major
\nimpact on the conservation area between North Sumatra and Aceh
\nprovinces.<\/p>\n
\"In the latest confirmation I received from the state
\nsecretary, the visit will be on March 7,\" Aceh Governor Abdullah
\nPuteh said over the weekend.<\/p>\n
Abdullah said that the President was also set inaugurate other
\nprojects during her visit there. These included the construction
\nof a complex of low-cost housing for civil servants, the
\nconstruction of an Islamic center and the opening of Iskandar
\nMuda fertilizer factory in North Aceh regency.<\/p>\n
The upcoming visit will be her third since she became
\npresident in July 2001. The visit is only days away from the
\nbeginning of the election campaigning period on March 11,
\nsparking suspicion that she will use the function to generate
\nmore publicity for her party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of
\nStruggle (PDI-P), as the election draws close.<\/p>\n
Indonesians will cast their votes for legislative candidates
