Mega goes to Singapore for checkup<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Vice President Megawati Soekarnoputri took a
\none-day trip to Singapore on Friday to have a general health
\ncheckup, which included an eye examination, at Mount Elizabeth
\nHospital.<\/p>\n
The Vice President left at 7 a.m. from Halim Perdanakusuma
\nairport. There was no detailed schedule provided by the vice
\npresidential office for the trip.<\/p>\n
Megawati was accompanied by her secretary, Bambang Kesowo, and
\nformer coordinating minister for economy, finance and industry
\nKwik Kian Gie.<\/p>\n
An official from the vice presidential office said that
\nMegawati will fly on Saturday to Denpasar to attend the 28th
\nanniversary of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI
\nPerjuangan), which she chairs.<\/p>\n
Antara reported that Megawati will travel overland from Ngurah
\nRai Airport in Denpasar to Jembrana, a distance of some 100
\nkilometers.<\/p>\n
Information officer of the local resort military command Capt.
\nNyoman Suandhi said the Vice President's entourage will be
\nheavily guarded during the overland trip.<\/p>\n
It was also reported that there will be some 2,000 police and
\nmilitary officers posted along the road, as thousands of people
\nare expected to throng the anniversary event.<\/p>\n
The Vice President will continue her trip on Sunday to Malang,
\nEast Java, where she will also attend an anniversary of her
\nparty, and later to visit her father's, former president Sukarno,
\ngrave in Blitar, East Java.<\/p>\n
Among the many party executive board members who are scheduled
\nto attend the two events are party deputy chairman Kwik Kian Gie,
\nRoy B.Janis, Theo Syafei, deputy secretary-general Agnita
