Deputy Chairman of Commission VI of the House of Representatives,
Andre Rosiade, attended a meeting with Minang migrants in Semarang. The
meeting was also accompanied by an agenda of maintaining ties with the
Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, as well as the executives of the
Central Java branch of the Minang Family Association (IKM). In the
meeting, Andre Rosiade, who is also the General Chairman of the IKM
Central Executive Board, emphasised that Minang migrants must become a
strategic force. A force capable of synergising with the government in
driving development, both at the regional and national levels. “We have
a principle: built wisely, implemented honestly. We will be a positive
partner for the government, whether city, regency, or central
government,” said Andre Rosiade in a written statement on Monday
(27/4/2026). Andre Rosiade also stressed the importance of maintaining
unity and a spirit of mutual cooperation among migrants, who are known
for their high solidarity. In addition to the agenda of maintaining
ties, the meeting discussed strengthening the IKM institution in Central
Java, including plans to provide a temporary office for the Central Java
branch until the construction of a permanent secretariat. Andre Rosiade
even opened opportunities to utilise empty spaces to support
organisational activities. “If there is space that can be utilised,
please use it temporarily. The important thing is that the organisation
continues to run and provides benefits,” said the General Chairman of
the IKM Central Executive Board, Andre Rosiade. In the discussion, the
management of assets owned by Minang migrants in the Tembalang area,
Semarang, was also addressed. These assets are considered to have great
potential to be developed into activity centres, including dormitories
for students. Andre Rosiade encouraged that these assets be optimised
immediately through renovations and more professional management. “If we
manage that asset well, in a short time we can revive it. This is
important so that the organisation has a clear base,” said the Deputy
Chairman of the Gerindra Party Faction in the House of Representatives,
Andre Rosiade. He then cited the success of Minang migrants in
Yogyakarta who had previously managed assets into student dormitories as
a model that could be applied in Central Java. Furthermore, plans for
building integrated facilities based on a mosque and multipurpose rooms
were also part of the discussion, with the hope of providing broad
benefits to the community. Furthermore, Andre Rosiade highlighted the
significant economic contribution of Minang migrants to their homeland,
particularly West Sumatra. “Migrants are a great force. Every year they
can send nearly Rp20 trillion to West Sumatra. This is concrete evidence
of the role of migrants in driving the regional economy,” revealed the
Secretary of the Gerindra Party Faction in the People’s Consultative
Assembly, Andre Rosiade. However, Andre also reminded that West
Sumatra’s economic growth has slowed in recent years, thus requiring
collaboration from all parties to boost the revival of the regional
economy. The meeting became an important momentum in strengthening
relations between Minang migrants, local government, and the IKM
organisation, while also reinforcing synergy to support more equitable
and sustainable development.
",
