Meeting to stop crime<\/p>\n

The first phase of the police investigation into the murder of
\nRohadi's wife and three of his children in the Bambu Apus area of
\nEast Jakarta led to the suspicion that the murder must have been
\ncommitted by somebody living nearby.<\/p>\n
It still puzzles me how such brutal murder could have taken
\nplace. The more so because it is surmised that the cause of the
\nviolent action was a prohibition voiced by the victim to plant
\ncassava in the latter's garden.<\/p>\n
I have lived in Jakarta for decades and have always led a
\npeaceful life with my neighbors. It does not make sense that a
\nsmall thing could cause such a sadistic murder. Are there no
\nother reasons behind the murder?<\/p>\n
Whatever the case, we must admit that our neighborhood life in
\nthe capital city has deteriorated over the years. Members of the
\nneighborhood organization are difficult to contact because they
\nare busy elsewhere. They often come home late in the evening.
\nNeighbors very seldom meet.<\/p>\n
It is advisable that neighborhood organizations hold regular
\nsocial gatherings attended by married couples, not just by the
\nwives during the daytime, such as an arisan.<\/p>\n
Also, children can meet more often and not only on special
\noccasions like national holidays.<\/p>\n
All these activities will enhance closer ties among neighbors.
\nThis will prevent such happenings as the murder of Rohadi's wife
\nand three children.<\/p>\n
