Governor Sutiyoso was born in 1944. That means he is now 61
\nyears old. However, his photograph printed in the fifth Jakarta
\nMeeting Planner's Guide 2005\/2006 does not show his present
\nappearance.<\/p>\n
The publisher uses an old photo of Sutiyoso, when the governor
\nwas much younger. Maybe, perhaps, it was Sutiyoso himself who
\ninsisted that photo be used.<\/p>\n
Also, the use of a black and white portrait of Sutiyoso while
\nphotos of other officials are in color is rather odd.<\/p>\n
This was just one of many defects in the new Jakarta Meeting
\nPlanner's Guide 2005\/2006, which was launched recently.<\/p>\n
The book is the official publication of the city of Jakarta to
\nhelp all meeting planners, either national or foreign, with
\nvarious aspects should they want to organize events in the city.<\/p>\n
From cover to cover, the book is full of color. However, the
\nquality of the printing -- and the paper -- is not of the highest
\nquality.<\/p>\n
Had the printing and the layout been done better, the book
\nwould have been more attractive and eye-catching.<\/p>\n
While other books normally display the title and the name of
\npublishers on the first page, this book opens with the table of
\ncontents. The contents are divided into several sections
\nincluding Jakarta Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Indonesia at
\na Glance, Welcome to Jakarta, Venues, Offices and Accommodations,
\nConvention and Exhibition Support Services, Other Professional
\nServices, Jakarta's Art and Culture Scene, Jakarta Spice of Life,
\nBeyond Jakarta, Important Directories and Planning Your
\nActivities: Trade Show.<\/p>\n
In the \"Indonesia at a Glance\" section, the publisher fails to
\nprovide new information, images or tables. Instead of using an
\nimage of the Borobudur Temple from a professional photographer,
\nthe publisher simply takes one from the Internet.<\/p>\n
Information about airlines at domestic and international
\nairports is quite comprehensive. It also includes the location of
\nairline offices at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the
\ncountry's main gateway.<\/p>\n
There is a brief dictionary of common Indonesian words
\nincluding numbers, days of the week, phrases and time.<\/p>\n
In regard to the information about media in Jakarta, the
\npublisher should perhaps have separated the English-language
\nmedia from the Indonesian.<\/p>\n
Some of the phrases in the information directory needs
\ncorrection. Instead of \"People's Advisory Assembly\" (the MPR), it
\nshould have been \"People's Consultative Assembly\", which consists
\nof the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional
\nRepresentatives Council (DPD).<\/p>\n
Mahkamah Agung (the Supreme Court) and Kejaksaan Agung RI
\nshould have been put into the Judicial Bodies section instead of
\nthe People's Consultative and Legislative Assembly. The Cabinet
\nSecretariat is also mistakenly put into the People's Consultative
\nand Legislative Assembly, while in fact the secretariat belongs
\nto the Cabinet.<\/p>\n
Generally, the information provided in this 216-page book is
\nvery helpful.<\/p>\n
However, the quality of the book should be improved in future.
\nAccuracy is also important aspect, so that people will not get
\nlost in this city, which is a chaotic mix of modern structures
\nand traditional customs.<\/p>",
