        "content": "<p>People\u2019s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Ahmad Muzani, along with\nan MPR delegation and Indonesian Islamic scholars, met with the Grand\nMufti of Uzbekistan, Sheikh Nuriddin Khaliqnazarov, at the Islamic\nCenter Museum complex in Tashkent. Muzani expressed views on the\ntolerant Islam and unity that have grown and developed in Indonesia. The\nmeeting took place on Tuesday (30\/6\/2026), with Muzani thanking the\nUzbek government, parliament, and Grand Mufti Nuriddin for their warm\nreception of the Indonesian delegation. Muzani noted that the friendship\nbetween Indonesia and Uzbekistan was forged hundreds of years ago when\nSheikh Maulana Malik Ibrahim, also known as Sunan Gresik, travelled to\nIndonesia to spread Islam. \u2018In the 15th century, a prominent scholar,\nSheikh Maulana Malik Ibrahim from Samarkand, Uzbekistan, came to\nIndonesia to spread Islam in Java. So our heart-to-heart connection has\nbeen intertwined since the 15th century. That is why Indonesia and\nUzbekistan feel so close at heart, even though we are far apart in\ndistance, we are like brothers,\u2019 Muzani said. He added that the\nfriendship was rekindled by President Sukarno when he wished to make a\npilgrimage to the tomb of Imam Bukhari. That moment became a history\nalways remembered by the people of Uzbekistan and Indonesia. \u2018The\nfriendship between Indonesia and Uzbekistan was rewoven by President\nSukarno during his pilgrimage to the tomb of Imam Bukhari. This historic\nmoment has been recorded and is always remembered in the hearts of the\nUzbek people, and it is also a source of pride for the Indonesian\nnation. Because of Bung Karno\u2019s pilgrimage visit, the tomb of Imam\nBukhari was reopened for pilgrims from around the world,\u2019 Muzani stated.\nBefore the Grand Mufti, Muzani explained that his current visit included\nIndonesian scholars comprising leaders of Islamic mass organisations and\nheads of Islamic boarding schools. He noted that while Indonesia is the\nworld\u2019s largest Muslim-majority country, it is also highly diverse, and\nreligious differences do not hinder the nation from remaining united.\n\u2018What unites us is Pancasila. Pancasila is the state ideology that also\nserves as a unifier of the many differences in religion, ethnicity,\nlanguage, and race. Furthermore, in Indonesia we are also taught about\nIslam rahmatan lil alamin, which teaches us the importance of practising\nreligion while respecting the diverse religious differences in\nIndonesia,\u2019 Muzani said. Muzani also responded positively to the Uzbek\ngovernment\u2019s invitation for cooperation regarding Umrah plus packages\nvia Uzbekistan, noting that religious tourism potential in Uzbekistan is\nalso of interest to Indonesian pilgrims. \u2018The Umrah plus Uzbekistan\noffer is an attractive religious tourism business proposal for us.\nHowever, the problem is there are no direct flights from Tashkent to\nJakarta and vice versa.
