        "content": "<p>The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a uniform\nincrease in rice prices in August 2026, affecting both the medium and\npremium categories.<\/p>\n<p>Ateng Hartono, the Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at\nBPS, stated that average rice prices at the milling, wholesale, and\nretail levels experienced an upward trend. On average, rice prices at\nthe milling level rose by 1.32 per cent month-to-month (mtm) and 5.52\nper cent year-on-year (yoy).<\/p>\n<p>When broken down by quality at the milling level, premium rice prices\nrose by 1.22 per cent (mtm) and 10.07 per cent (yoy), while medium rice\nprices increased by 1.48 per cent (mtm) and 4.03 per cent (yoy).\n\u201cTherefore, on a year-on-year basis, the increase for premium rice was\nhigher than that of medium rice,\u201d said Ateng.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, the upward price trend for both medium and premium rice has\nbeen ongoing since February 2026. Regarding price developments at the\nwholesale and retail levels in August 2026, the wholesale level\nexperienced inflation of 0.80 per cent (mtm) and 4.28 per cent (yoy). At\nthe retail level, inflation stood at 0.42 per cent (mtm) and 2.77 per\ncent (yoy). \u201cFor your information, the rice prices we are reporting are\naverage prices covering various qualities and all regions across\nIndonesia,\u201d Ateng added.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the national Farmer Terms of Trade (NTP) stood at 129.19\nin August 2026, an increase of 1.05 per cent compared to July 2026. This\nrise in NTP occurred because the index of prices received by farmers\n(It) rose by 1.14 per cent to 165.66, which was higher than the increase\nin the index of prices paid by farmers (Ib) of 0.09 per cent to\n128.24.<\/p>\n<p>The commodities predominantly influencing the increase in the\nnational price index received by farmers included unhusked rice (gabah),\npalm oil, rubber, and broiler chickens. Meanwhile, commodities affecting\nthe price index paid by farmers included broiler chicken meat, rice,\nlong beans, and kidney beans.<\/p>",
