Media leaders condemn Bali attack<\/p>\n

In the wake of the Oct. 12 Bali bombing tragedy that claimed
\n183 lives, prominent media leaders grouped in the Editors' Club,
\nTelevision Association and the Public Relations Association
\n(Perhumas) conveyed their deep concern on Wednesday over the
\nincident and extended their condolences to the dead and injured
\nof all nations.<\/p>\n
In a seven-point statement made available to The Jakarta Post
\non Wednesday evening, the three groups strongly condemned the
\nterror acts and extended their appreciation to the big-hearted
\nand generous people of Bali in dealing with the calamity, for
\nshowing their sincerity in helping rescue the survivors and for
\npreserving harmony among the people.<\/p>\n
The statement also urged President Megawati Soekarnoputri,
\nmembers of the House of Representatives (DPR), prominent leaders
\nand other components of the nation to immediately put aside all
\nfriction and political bickering and to sit down together to
\nformulate and implement concrete steps for waging war against
\nterrorism.<\/p>\n
The President and DPR members were also urged to take concrete
\nmeasures to overcome the impact of Oct. 12, Black Saturday, and
\npromptly launch physical, economic and social reconstruction.<\/p>\n
The statement asserted that measures to restore the economy
\nand the lives of Balinese people must include the rebuilding of
\nBali's image as the country's icon of peace.<\/p>\n
The groups further urged all Indonesians to unite in
\nconfronting the national tragedy and to rise together to restore
\nthe country's dignity.<\/p>",
