According to information from the United States\nCenters for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), measles is not merely\na disease with mild symptoms. The infection can affect anyone, but\ninfants and children are the groups most vulnerable to severe\ncomplications. Symptoms of measles typically begin to appear around 7 to\n14 days after exposure to the virus. In the early stages, sufferers\ngenerally experience high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery\neyes. Two to three days later, tiny white spots known as Koplik spots\nmay appear inside the mouth. After this, the characteristic measles rash\nbegins to emerge. The rash usually appears on the face near the hairline\nbefore spreading to the neck, torso, arms, legs, and eventually the\nentire body. When the rash appears, the patient\u2019s body temperature can\nrise to more than 40 degrees Celsius. One of the most serious\ncomplications of measles is pneumonia, a lung infection that occurs when\nthe virus causes inflammation in the lung tissue, disrupting the\nbreathing process.
