The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has denied producing UHT milk for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, stating that it procures milk from the open market without contracts to specific producers. This comes amid social media buzz over MBG-labelled milk being sold in minimarkets, despite clear packaging warnings against resale. The incident raises concerns about the integrity of the government's free school nutrition initiative and potential misuse by producers to offload surplus stock.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency
(BGN) Nanik Sudaryati Deyang stated that BGN has never produced Ultra
High Temperature (UHT) milk.

This was conveyed by Nanik in response to reports that milk from the
Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme was being sold in minimarkets.

“That’s not our product. We at MBG have never had or made milk,”
Nanik emphasised when met at the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs
in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (2 April 2026).

When asked further if BGN had communicated with the milk producer,
Nanik simply denied it again.

The same sentiment was expressed by BGN Head Dadan Hindayana.

He also affirmed that his agency has never produced UHT milk for
sale.

“Here’s the thing, BGN has never made a contract or committed to any
producer,” he stressed at the Coordinating Ministry for Food
Affairs.

According to him, all Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG)
purchase milk from the free market at prevailing prices.

“So our SPPG-based milk is bought based on the market prices
available. If there’s school milk in the market, I think it’s possible
that some producer is trying to make it sell and then it’s sold in the
market,” said Dadan.

Social media timelines are currently abuzz with posts showing Free
Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme milk being sold in minimarkets.

However, the milk product packaging clearly states “Free MBG
Programme Milk Not for Resale”.

In the post, the 125 ml milk packs are seen being marketed for around
Rp 4,000 per pack or about Rp 138,000 per carton.

The post was shared by the Threads account @moh*** on Wednesday (1 April 2026).

He highlighted the contradiction between the “not for resale” label
and the on-the-ground sales practice.

“A bit shocked, a bit surprised to find this, even though it’s
clearly written FREE MBG PROGRAMME MILK. NOT FOR RESALE, but why can it
be sold in minimarkets. What’s the concept here??” wrote the poster.
",
