The Ministry of Finance reported that as of 21st February 2026, the
budget realisation for the free nutritious meal (MBG) programme has
reached IDR 36.6 trillion. This figure represents 10.9% of the allocated
MBG budget, which this year is set at IDR 335 trillion.

Deputy Minister of Finance, Suahasil Nazara, stated that the number
of MBG recipients continues to increase. “These are the latest figures,
as of 21st February 2026. If we look at the end of 2025, there were 53.8
million recipients; currently, there are 60.24 million recipients,” he
said during a press conference on the state budget (APBN) in Jakarta,
Monday, 23rd February 2026.

Scroll down to continue reading

The number of recipients has increased significantly compared to the
realisation on 31st January 2025. At that time, the number of MBG
recipients was around 549,000 people served by 246 kitchens, also known
as Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG).

As of 21st February 2026, there are 23,678 SPPGs spread across the
country, serving the programme.

Previously, Minister of Finance, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, had mentioned
the possibility of reallocating the 2026 MBG budget. The MBG budget has
increased from IDR 71 trillion in 2025 to IDR 335 trillion this
year.

Purbaya had expressed doubts that the entire budget would be used.
According to his calculations, even if twice the amount of IDR 71
trillion were used, it would not reach IDR 300 trillion. “So, we will
see what can be made more efficient. We will move it to another place if
it can be moved,” he said in Tangerang, Banten, Thursday, 5th February
2025.

He stated that this step would be taken while ensuring that President
Prabowo Subianto’s flagship programme continues to run optimally. “The
goal is not to hinder the MBG programme but to encourage it to be more
efficient.”

The large MBG budget for 2026 is used to achieve a target of 82.9
million beneficiaries. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance reported that
the MBG budget realisation on 31st December 2025 was only 72.5% of the
target. This means that out of IDR 71 trillion, only IDR 51 trillion was
used throughout last year.

Editor’s Choice: Conflict of Interest: Police Overseeing Free
Nutritious Meals
",
