Mayor's accountability accepted<\/p>\n
BOGOR (JP): Local councillors here unanimously accepted on
\nThursday the annual progress report delivered by Mayor H.R.
\nIswara Natanegara.<\/p>\n
Factions in the legislative council, however, made various
\nrecommendations to the mayor for the purpose of improving his
\nadministration during the remainder of his tenure.<\/p>\n
The council has 12 factions as the result of the 1999
\nelections.<\/p>\n
The largest faction from the Indonesian Democratic Party of
\nStruggle (PDI Perjuangan), represented by Taufik Kusnun, focused
\nits advice on human resources development. It urged the mayoralty
\nadministration to place education at the head of the list of its
\ndevelopment priorities and allocate more resources for the
\nsector.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Justice Party (PK) faction asked the mayor to
\nbe more consistent in undertaking programs that had been
\ndetermined beforehand. Consistency, the faction said, should also
\nbe reflected in budget allocations.<\/p>\n
The PK also supported the administration's policy of clearing
\nthe streets of traditional three-wheel pedicabs (becak) and
\nillegal street vendors. It said the crackdown should continue in
\norder to ease social problems, such as traffic congestion.<\/p>\n
In response to the recommendations, Mayor Iswara promised to
\ntake them into account and bring them up at a meeting with his
\nstaff in the coming days.(21)<\/p>",
