Tangerang \u2014 Tangerang mayor Sachrudin has stated that the zakat\npotential in the city reaches approximately Rp2.2 trillion and could\nbecome a major force in supporting efforts to improve public welfare if\nmanaged optimally.<\/p>\n
\u201cZakat is a financial instrument of the community with a great\npurpose: helping to alleviate poverty and strengthen public welfare,\u201d\nsaid the mayor whilst attending the Gebyar Zakat Maal event in Tangerang\non Friday.<\/p>\n
He stated that if this potential can be optimised, zakat could become\na very strong economic safety net for the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cZakat plays an important role in strengthening care and social\nsolidarity among the public. Through zakat, social bonds between\ncitizens can be strengthened, especially between those with surplus\nresources and those in need,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to him, zakat has not only a religious dimension as an\nobligation for Muslims, but also serves a major social function in\nhelping to ease the burden of those in need.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough zakat, a sense of mutual care and affection will be built;\nthis is what makes zakat an important instrument in strengthening social\nsolidarity within the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Sachrudin also emphasised that zakat distribution should continue to\nbe developed through various programmes that are not only temporary\nassistance, but also capable of enhancing public self-reliance.<\/p>\n
He therefore urged the National Zakat Board (Baznas) of Tangerang\ncity to continue optimising economic empowerment programmes for zakat\nrecipients so they can improve their living standards and welfare.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the National Zakat Board (Baznas) of Tangerang city,\nBanten, is targeting Rp6.9 billion in zakat collections during Ramadhan\nfrom zakat mal, infaq and corporate social responsibility funds.<\/p>\n
Baznas chairman of Tangerang city Aslie Elhusyairy stated that to\nmeet this target, the organisation is opening service points at various\nhigh-traffic locations and distributing zakat fitrah coupons to be\ndistributed across all areas.<\/p>\n
