Mayor urged to get tough against illegal builders<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A City Council member has urged South Jakarta
\nMayor Pardjoko to take consistently harsh measures against
\nresidents constructing business structures on land earmarked for
\nresidential sites.<\/p>\n
Saud Rahman, a councilor of Commission D in charge of
\ndevelopment affairs, said over the weekend the mayor must stop
\nthe residents from continuing their business activities on Jl.
\nKemang Raya, Jl. Bangka and Jl. Ampera.<\/p>\n
Saud said the land on which their business buildings stand are
\nallocated under law as \"yellow area\" residential districts.<\/p>\n
Many of those areas have been turned into business districts,
\nwith pubs, restaurants, discotheques, shopping centers and
\napartments constructed there.<\/p>\n
In a discussion with owners of the buildings recently, the
\ncouncil found that the businessmen had secured official permits
\nfor the establishment of their property, Saud said.<\/p>\n
South Jakarta Mayor Pardjoko has said many times that the
\nSouth Jakarta mayoralty is consistent on maintaining the areas as
\nresidential sites. The mayoralty is collecting data on the
\nviolations, including the issuance of the permits, he said.<\/p>\n
Governor Surjadi Soedirdja ordered all city officials recently
\nto be consistent in the implementation of all regulations.<\/p>\n
\"All regulations made through a democratic process, must be
\nimplemented authoritatively,\" the governor told his officials,
\nincluding all mayors, as well as all heads of municipal offices.<\/p>\n
He told the newly-installed head of the City Development
\nSupervision Office, Hartanto, to improve the development control
\nsystem.<\/p>\n
He said that many buildings have been set up without building
\npermits because the procedures for the processing of building
\npermits and other related licenses are complicated and time-
\nconsuming.<\/p>\n
