Mayor upset by developer<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The deputy governor, responsible for government
\naffairs, Idroes, said he will ask the North Jakarta mayor to
\nexamine the reasons for the reduction in the number of public
\nfacilities to be given by PT Summarecon, a housing developer, to
\ncity administration.<\/p>\n
\"The mayoralty should recheck the data submitted by the
\ncompany,\" he said. \"The developer has agreed to give away public
\nand social facilities to the mayoralty, that's all we know,\"
\nIdroes said over the weekend.<\/p>\n
In a letter to the mayoralty, dated April 12, 1995, PT
\nSummarecon stated it was ready to build public and social
\nfacilities in the Kelapa Gading housing complex it is now
\nconstructing. When completed, the company will give them to the
\nNorth Jakarta mayoralty. But the size of the land set aside for
\nthe facilities was less than what it has previously promised.<\/p>\n
Idroes said the company previously agreed to build public and
\nsocial facilities worth more than Rp 300 billion. The facilities
\nincluded 28 parks worth Rp 82 billion.<\/p>\n
Idroes said the developer, in its letter, also promised that
\nthose facilities would be completed before August this year. But
\non the official list submitted later to the mayoralties, it was
\nstated that the developer would only give away 19 parks, not 28
\nas promised.<\/p>\n
The size of the land set aside for a community health center
\nis also not in conformity with the statement made in the letter.
\nThe land size is only 6,250 square meters, 1,350 square meters
\nshort of that originally promised.<\/p>\n
PT Summarecon, as one of the biggest housing developers in the
\ncountry, received a certificate of appreciation directly from
\nPresident Soeharto recently for its participation in constructing
\nthe Bidara Cina apartments. (31)<\/p>",
