The impact of the floods that struck Padang City on 3 August 2026 has\ndrawn serious attention from the Task Force for the Acceleration of\nPost-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) for the\nSumatra Region. Padang Mayor Fadly Amran held an audience and inspected\nthe flood impact together with the Head of the Monitoring and Evaluation\nTeam of the Sumatra Post-Disaster PRR Task Force, Police Brigadier\nGeneral Yopie Indra Prasetya Sepang, and team members at the White\nHouse, the official residence of the Padang Mayor, on Tuesday, 11 August\n2026.<\/p>\n
Also present were elements of the Padang City Regional Leadership\nCoordination Forum, several heads of relevant agencies within the Padang\nCity Government, as well as the Sumatra V Padang River Basin Agency and\nother related parties. Following the audience, the PRR Task Force,\ntogether with Mayor Fadly Amran and officials, inspected several\nlocations severely affected by the floods in Kuranji Sub-district,\nKuranji District, namely Lapau Munggu RT 01 and RT 02 RW 06 and the Guo\narea RT 03 RW 06.<\/p>\n
The inspection was also carried out in the By Pass Air Pacah area,\nKoto Tangah District. Fadly Amran said that the 3 August 2026 flood was\nthe second occurrence after Padang City was hit by a hydrometeorological\ndisaster in November 2025.<\/p>\n
This condition indicates that there are still vulnerable points\nrequiring central government intervention, so the proposed Post-Disaster\nRehabilitation and Reconstruction Plan (R3P) needs to be updated to\ncover all affected areas. \u201cWe want flood management to not only focus on\nphysical construction, but to be integrated with long-term disaster\nmanagement and mitigation systems,\u201d said Fadly Amran.<\/p>\n
Fadly Amran stated that the total flood management needs for Padang\nCity in the R3P document amount to approximately Rp955.771 billion. The\nproposals include the construction of the Air Pacah retention basin,\ndrainage improvements in the Bypass area in front of the Mayor\u2019s Office,\nrepairs to the crossing channel in front of Aciak Mart, and\nnormalisation of Batang Maransi.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlso the construction of flood control for Batang Guo, sediment\ncontrol for Batang Guo, the creation of a geoportal, and the provision\nof flood sensors at Batang Kuranji. We hope all these proposals can be\naccepted by the central government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Police Brigadier General Yopie Indra Prasetya Sepang assessed that\nthe Padang City Government\u2019s steps in handling the disaster impact have\nbeen swift, both in emergency response and in the progress of\nrehabilitation and reconstruction. \u201cWe have inspected several locations\nand observed that the flooding is a recurring event. Therefore, a more\nin-depth discussion is needed regarding the handling pattern,\u201d said\nYopie.<\/p>\n
According to him, the 3 August flood in Padang City is a recurring\nevent that requires more in-depth discussion, including regarding the\nproposal to add activities to the master plan. Yopie explained that the\nresults of the monitoring and evaluation specifically for post-flood\nhandling in Padang City will serve as evaluation material for the PRR\nTask Force to be conveyed to the central government, including the\nPadang City Government\u2019s proposal regarding the addition of R3P\ncomponents.<\/p>\n
