        "content": "<p>Mayor denies compensation irregularities<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): North Jakarta Mayor Suprawito denied yesterday<br>\nmayoralty officials had committed irregularities when<br>\ndistributing land compensation to Ancol residents.<\/p>\n<p>Suprawito denied officials got residents to sign blank<br>\nreceipts when evacuating the 4.5-hectare plot owned by the state<br>\nRailway Company Perumka.<\/p>\n<p>Vice Governor Idroes said he would order the mayor to<br>\ninvestigate the case.<\/p>\n<p>\"The city will impose firm action if officials are found to<br>\nhave got residence to sign receipts which did not bear the amount<br>\nof money given to the residents,\" Idroes said.<\/p>\n<p>The City Council's Commission A for administration inspected<br>\nthe North Jakarta mayoralty office Wednesday after 596 families<br>\nowning 700 houses in the subdistrict complained.<\/p>\n<p>The legislators alleged some officials had persuaded residents<br>\nto sign blank receipts so they would not know how much<br>\ncompensation they should have got.<\/p>\n<p>The allegations have raised suspicions officials had cheated<br>\neach resident of Rp 200,000 compensation. Compensation payments<br>\nranged from Rp 500,000 to Rp 700,000.<\/p>\n<p>The commission's secretary, Abdoel Hamid Notowidagdo, said the<br>\nembezzlement cost the government over Rp 100 million.<\/p>\n<p>Abdoel said some officials reportedly harassed and intimidated<br>\nresidents to move off the land.<\/p>\n<p>The commission also found the district's public security<br>\nofficials had issued the compensation money. They are not allowed<br>\nto issue compensation.<\/p>\n<p>Suprawito said public security officials involvement was<br>\nsimply because the security office was responsible to the<br>\nmayoralty.<\/p>\n<p>Kusaeni, head of the city public security office, said he<br>\nwould help the mayor clarify the case.<\/p>\n<p>Another alleged procedural violation was paying residents<br>\nwithout the district chief's authorization, Abdoel said.<\/p>\n<p>Challenging the allegation Suprawito said a meeting was held<br>\nwith all involved parties where agreement over the compensation<br>\nand procedures was reached.
