        "content": "<p>The Indonesian government has officially promulgated Presidential\nRegulation (Perpres) No.\u00a025 of 2026 to ratify International Labour\nOrganization (ILO) Convention No.\u00a0188 on Work in Fishing. The\nregulation, launched during the commemoration of International Labour\nDay (May Day) 2026, represents a strategic step to ensure that every\nfishing vessel crew member has rights to decent working conditions in\naccordance with international standards. Labour Minister (Menaker)\nYassierli stated that through this ratification, the government ensures\nthe presence of the state for its citizens wherever they may be.\n\u201cThrough this ratification, the state is present not only on land but\nalso in the vast ocean to protect all crew members, including those\nworking on small vessels,\u201d he said in a written statement received by\nKompas.com on Saturday (2\/5\/2026). Yassierli noted that the government\nrecognises the fishing sector as one of the high-risk occupations.\nTherefore, strong legal standards are needed to protect the crew\nmembers. \u201cWith this ratification, Indonesia now stands alongside other\nadvanced maritime nations in enforcing human rights standards in the\nhigh seas,\u201d he said. First, minimum age\nrequirements. Ship owners or fishing entrepreneurs must ensure standards\nfor the age and health of crew members before they start working. Third,\nwelfare on board.
