Matsuhita's reorganization<\/p>\n
TOKYO (Dow Jones): Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. plans to
\nreorganize and consolidate its home appliance manufacturing bases
\nin Asia by product over the next few years to boost its
\ncompetitiveness, a company spokesman said Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Matsushita plans to strengthen its production of refrigerators
\nin Thailand, making the Thai plant its core manufacturing base in
\nAsia. It currently produces refrigerators in Indonesia, the
\nPhilippines, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand.<\/p>\n
For washing machines, the company plans to consolidate
\nproduction in Malaysia, while it now manufactures them in
\nIndonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and other nations.<\/p>\n
Through the move, Matsushita aims to increase its annual
\noutput at the two plants to over 1 million units - as stated in
\nits guidelines for its overseas plant reorganization, the
\nofficial said.<\/p>\n
"In addition to our efforts to seek better production
\nefficiency, the move is prompted by the AFTA (ASEAN Free Trade
\nArea) concept," he said.<\/p>",
