Matori told to accept dismissal<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Former president Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid said on
\nThursday that he wanted to make up with Matori Abdul Djalil on
\ncondition that the latter accepted his dismissal as chairman of
\nthe National Awakening Party (PKB).<\/p>\n
Gus Dur was responding to a suggestion by the South Jakarta
\nDistrict Court that the PKB conflict be settled amicably.<\/p>\n
"One of the conditions that Matori must accept is that he
\nrecognizes the result of the most recent PKB congress in
\nYogyakarta, which elected Alwi Shihab as the new party leader,"
\nGus Dur said.<\/p>\n
Matori, the current defense minister, filed a lawsuit against
\nGus Dur, who in his capacity as chairman of the PKB board of
\npatrons, removed Matori from the party's helm last year.<\/p>\n
Matori claimed his dismissal was unlawful, and established a
\nrival faction of the PKB with tacit backing from the government.
