        "content": "<p>Mathias Wenda to be deported from PNG<\/p>\n<p>JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya (JP): The Papua New Guinea government<br>\nwill deport some 30 to 40 Irianese border crossers, including<br>\nFree Papua Movement (OPM) separatist leader Mathias Wenda and his<br>\nassistant Simon Alum, the Indonesian consul for Papua New Guinea<br>\nsaid on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Wisnu T. Mahendra said the Papua New Guinea government had<br>\nfiled no legal charges against the illegal border crossers, who<br>\nwill be handed to Indonesian authorities to face legal<br>\nprocessing.<\/p>\n<p>\"The ties between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea are close and<br>\nare not affected by the rising insurgency in Irian Jaya. The<br>\ndeportations prove that they trust that we will take the<br>\nnecessary measures,\" Wisnu told reporters after meeting with<br>\nIrian Jaya Governor JP Solossa.<\/p>\n<p>A source in the Irian Jaya Police said the Irianese would be<br>\nhanded over to Indonesian authorities on Friday in Wotung<br>\nvillage, about two kilometers by car from Jayapura, the capital<br>\nof Irian Jaya province.<\/p>\n<p>Mobile Brigade police personnel are scheduled to accompany the<br>\nentourage of provincial administration officials to pick up the<br>\ndeported Irianese.<\/p>\n<p>Irian Jaya has seen growing separatist sentiment, with rebel<br>\ngroups often crossing the border into Papua New Guinea to flee<br>\nsecurity forces in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>However, the neighboring country has officially announced that<br>\nit has no intention of interfering with issues concerning<br>\nIndonesian separatists and stressed that it would not tolerate<br>\ntrespassers.<\/p>\n<p>The police source also said that apart from being charged with<br>\nsubversion, Mathias Wenda could be charged with killing migrant<br>\nsettlers in 1997 and 2001.<\/p>\n<p>Simon Alum will be charged with, among other things, the<br>\nbeating of a reporter and a cameraman of private Indosiar<br>\ntelevision station in late 2000.
