        "content": "<p>The implementation of the New Student Admission System (SPMB) for\nprimary and junior secondary levels in Mataram has highlighted a\nsignificant imbalance in student numbers. Several schools are\nexperiencing an excess of applicants, whilst others are facing a\nshortage of pupils.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the Mataram Education Agency, Yusuf, stated that his office\nwill redistribute students from oversubscribed schools to those with\nfewer enrolments. The process will be adjusted according to the\nprospective students\u2019 domiciles. \u201cRegarding schools that are short of\nstudents, we will distribute them to schools that are still lacking,\u201d\nYusuf said on Monday (6\/7\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>According to Yusuf, the disparity in applicant numbers is quite\nstriking in several schools. One example is SMP Negeri 13 Mataram, where\nout of a quota of 400 students, the school is less than half full. \u201cFrom\nthe results we have received, SMPN 13 Mataram is still significantly\nshort of students. It is below 200, only half of the quota,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n<p>A more concerning situation is occurring at SMPN 18 Mataram. Yusuf\nnoted that the school has consistently been a low-demand option year\nafter year, with only a handful of registrants. \u201cSMPN 18 Mataram is even\nworse; year after year, the student numbers remain the same. Only 12 to\n15 students,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, there is a concentration of applicants at popular schools\nalong Jalan Pejanggik, Mataram, such as SMPN 1 Mataram and SMPN 2\nMataram, as well as SMPN 6 Mataram on Jalan Udayana. \u201cSDN 10 Cakranegara\nis overcrowded; we have asked them to return. Because the central system\nhas locked the data, there is no room for negotiation. We are\ninstructing overcrowded schools to send students back to their original\nschools to prevent a pile-up,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Yusuf added that the process of equalisation and student transfer is\ncurrently being refined. The Mataram Education Agency is drafting a\ndistribution scheme to balance student numbers, which includes shifting\nover-capacity students from SMPN 2 Mataram to SMPN 6 Mataram, from SMPN\n6 Mataram to SMPN 1 Mataram, and from SMPN 1 Mataram to SMPN 15\nMataram.<\/p>",
