        "content": "<p>The Mataram City Government plans to propose a change to the national\nStudent Admission System (SPMB) regulations to the central government.\nThe proposal emerged after the implementation of the SPMB domicile\npathway was deemed to have failed to achieve an equitable distribution\nof students across state schools.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the Mataram City Education Office, Yusuf, stated that one of\nthe proposals to be submitted is the reinstatement of an Academic\nAbility Test (TKA) as the primary requirement for new student admissions\nat the junior high school level. This would mirror the previously\nimplemented Pure Ebtanas Score (NEM) system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe domicile-based SPMB has not run as expected. This year we will\nevaluate the obstacles again and refine it. We propose that the\ngovernment change the regulation to use a full TKA, like the NEM,\u201d Yusuf\nsaid on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>According to Yusuf, the domicile pathway was fundamentally designed\nto provide educational access for students living near schools,\nparticularly those from underprivileged families. However, in practice,\nthe policy has been deemed unable to address the disparity in student\ndistribution.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, the Mataram city administration plans to recommend that\nthe SPMB be overhauled. The main point is to make the TKA score a\nmandatory requirement, specifically for the junior high school\nlevel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEntry to junior high school should just use the TKA pathway, but it\ndepends on the ministry. We are currently conducting a study on the\npositive and negative impacts. If the central government agrees,\nalhamdulillah; if not, we will accept it,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the implementation of the SPMB for elementary and junior\nhigh school levels in Mataram City raised issues of participant\ndistribution inequality. Several schools experienced an excess of\nregistrants, while others faced a shortage of students.<\/p>\n<p>According to Yusuf, the disparity in registrant numbers was quite\nstriking in several schools. One example is SMP Negeri 13 Mataram, where\nout of a quota of 400 students, the school was less than half full.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the results we received, SMPN 13 Mataram still has a\nsignificant shortage of students. It is below 200, only half of the\nquota,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>An even more concerning situation occurred at SMPN 18 Mataram. Yusuf\nstated that the school has consistently had low enrolment year after\nyear, with the number of students reaching only a dozen registrants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSMPN 18 Mataram is even worse; year after year, the number of\nstudents remains the same. Only 12 to 15 students,\u201d he explained.<\/p>",
