        "content": "<p>Mataram (ANTARA) - The Mataram City Government in West Nusa Tenggara\nProvince is preparing a new policy that mandates structural officials to\nuse bicycles as transport to the office to improve fuel efficiency for\nofficial vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Mataram City Secretary H Lalu Alwan Basri in Mataram on Wednesday\nsaid the policy is a direct instruction from the Mayor of Mataram as a\nstrategic step in addressing the central government\u2019s planned\nwork-from-home (WFH) policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the government implements WFH, we in the Mataram City Government\nwill not do WFH but will issue a policy for structural officials\nstarting from echelon II, III, to IV, to use bicycles,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Secretary stated that the policy is based on two main objectives:\nfuel budget efficiency and the health of civil servants (ASN).<\/p>\n<p>For fuel budget efficiency, the Mataram City Government has cut the\nfuel expenditure budget by up to 50% in the 2026 fiscal year compared to\nthe previous year.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, cycling can also impact ASN health, as besides the\neconomic aspect, cycling to the office is expected to improve the health\nquality of officials in the city government environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe ask officials to cycle from home to the office. This is the\nMayor\u2019s policy that we will implement soon, especially when the WFH\nregulations are later decided by the centre,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Secretary said that although the policy targets echelon II, III,\nand IV officials, the city government still provides flexibility for\ncertain agendas.<\/p>\n<p>For example, when there are activities outside the office such as\nmeetings at the Regional People\u2019s Representative Council (DPRD),\nofficials are allowed to use official vehicles with a pick-up point\nsystem at the secretariat for greater efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will also review sanctions for officials who do not use bicycles,\nafter the policy is established,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the Secretary added, with the policy of officials\nusing bicycles, besides cost savings, the step is also seen as a small\nsolution to reduce congestion in Mataram City.<\/p>\n<p>With the reduced volume of official vehicles on the roads, it is\nhoped that general public mobility can be smoother.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor that reason, the policy will be implemented soon in the near\nfuture, along with the finalisation of technical regulations and\ncoordination with the central government regarding the WFH work\npattern,\u201d he said.<\/p>",
