        "content": "<p>The head of a Job Training Institute (LPK) with the initials KM in\nMataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), has been named a suspect in a\ncriminal case of human trafficking (TPPO) with Japan as the destination.\nThe perpetrator recruited prospective migrant workers illegally and\ngained tens of millions of rupiah in profit. The Director of Women and\nChildren Protection and Human Trafficking Eradication (Dirres PPA-PPO)\nof the NTB Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Ni Made Pujewati, stated\nthat the case began with a victim\u2019s report. During the investigation,\ninvestigators examined witnesses, observed recruitment, training, and\nshelter locations, and seized a number of supporting documents. \u2018We\nelevated the individual\u2019s status from witness to suspect after we\nassessed that the evidence was sufficient,\u2019 Pujewati said on Monday\n(29\/6\/2026). Investigators found that the suspect recruited at least six\nvictims. Each prospective worker was asked to pay a registration fee\nranging from Rp 12.5 million to Rp 22.5 million. From this practice, the\nperpetrator reaped a profit of approximately Rp 95 million. \u2018The victims\nwere promised work in the agricultural sector in Japan,\u2019 she said. To\nconvince the victims, the perpetrator provided language training,\ndistributed uniforms, and issued training identity cards. \u2018They then\nmoved the shelter from one location to another when the departure was\nrepeatedly delayed,\u2019 she said. The perpetrator is also recorded as\nhaving previously undergone legal proceedings for a similar case and is\ncurrently detained at the Mataram Class III Women\u2019s Correctional\nInstitution (LPP). According to her, the illegal recruitment practice\ncarried out by the suspect has been ongoing since 2025. The first case\nfile recorded seven victims, while the latest case contains six victims\nwith a similar pattern. \u2018The modus operandi remains the same, starting\nwith recruitment, language training, job placement promises, then moving\nvictims from one shelter to another. All victims are male because they\nwere promised work in the agricultural sector in Japan,\u2019 she revealed.\nVictims of the suspect\u2019s actions are suspected to be more than those who\nhave reported. Members of the public who feel they are victims are\nwelcome to report. \u2018We are opening the widest possible space for members\nof the public who feel they are victims. We have examined six victims,\nbut they conveyed that while at the shelter, the number was more than 40\npeople,\u2019 she said.<\/p>",
