Officials like the Head of Social Services, Muzakkir Walad, are embracing the initiative despite distances of around 5.8 km, highlighting its ease and practicality. Mayor Mohan Roliskana is reviewing extensions to all civil servants, with alternatives planned for those with longer commutes to ensure broader adoption.

Echelon II officials of the Mataram City Government are now
collectively riding pedal bicycles or cycling to work. This policy of
cycling aims to support fuel oil (BBM) efficiency.

The Secretary of the Mataram City Regional Secretariat, Lalu Alwan
Basri, revealed that the policy on bicycle use by Mataram City
Government officials has been mutually agreed upon. The policy will
begin implementation from Monday (6/4/2026).

“Feel free, whether using an electric bicycle (it’s allowed), or a
traditional bicycle, that’s fine. The important thing is it can achieve
efficiency and be environmentally friendly,” said Alwan on Monday.

Observations show that the parking area at the Mataram Mayor’s Office
on Pejanggik Street, Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), looks
different from usual days. Whereas normally many official vehicles are
parked there, now the parking area is occupied by a row of pedal
bicycles.

The Head of the Mataram City Social Service (Dinsos), Muzakkir Walad,
is one of the Mataram City Government officials who has started cycling
to the office. He has to cover a distance of around 5.8 km using an
electric bicycle.

“From home to the Dinsos office, it’s almost 5.8 km. It’s a bit far,
but easy to cover by bicycle,” said Muzakkir on Monday.

“Especially when there’s no petrol, just use it. It’s very easy,” he
added.

Previously reported, the Mataram City Government will mandate all
civil servants (ASN) within the Mataram City Government to switch to
using pedal bicycles when commuting to work. This step is taken to
reduce BBM consumption and employee expenditure efficiency.

Mataram Mayor Mohan Roliskana is currently studying the use of pedal
bicycles for Mataram City Government employees. However, he acknowledges
that many employees have quite long distances from their workplaces.

“For employees whose commute distance is quite far from home to
office, we will find alternatives for them. These alternatives are what
I will convey later,” said Mohan.
",
