        "content": "<p>Matahari nine-month profit rises almost threefold on strong sales<\/p>\n<p>PT Matahari Putra Prima, Indonesia's biggest retailer by sales,<br>\nsaid net profit rose almost threefold in the first nine months of<br>\nthe year on higher sales and a gain from an asset sale.<\/p>\n<p>Unaudited net income increased to Rp 141.5 billion (US$14<br>\nmillion), or Rp 56 a share, from Rp 51.2 billion, or Rp 20<br>\nrupiah, the Tangerang, Banten-based company said in a statement<br>\nto the Jakarta Stock Exchange filed on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Sales gained 22 percent to Rp 4.52 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>The company posted Rp 9.1 billion in other income in the nine<br>\nmonths, which included a gain from a stake sale, it said.<\/p>\n<p>Higher consumption in Indonesia has prompted at least 11<br>\noverseas retailers to set up operations in the country in the<br>\npast six years.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia's economy may expand 5.8 percent this year,<br>\nCoordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Aburizal Bakrie said<br>\non Oct. 25.<\/p>\n<p>The economy grew 5.1 percent last year, the fastest since<br>\n1996, driven by higher spending.<\/p>\n<p>\"The other income came from the sale of our stake in\" PT Hero<br>\nSupermarket, Director Danny Kojongian said in a phone interview<br>\nafter the result was submitted.<\/p>\n<p>Matahari last month sold its 7.9 percent stake in Hero<br>\nSupermarket to Dairy Farm International Holdings Ltd.
